“Damm! Would Karen ever stop playing those pranks! I couldn't believe her! A fake call for help was funny once, but ten times in five days? I mean this was survival camp, you could really scare the hell out of someone by doing that.
“I had hated her ever since I met her. It was the first day of camp, almost two weeks ago. We were picking out partners and since I got to camp late (My dad never seems to get me anywhere on time) I got stuck with Karen, the Bitch as every one else called her. We had gone through first three days, the training period, together without much of an incident, but we didn't talk to each other except to do the minimum required of us.
“Karen had started in on some small pranks during training, like putting squished berries in my shampoo and dropping worms, berries, and various things down my back. Eventually they grew to be large pranks, like “accidentally” leaving me on the island when we went canoeing.
“Then camp the day for the Bitch and the inexperienced one, as the others called our group, leave on our survival trip. I had hated it, being stranded in the middle of the woods with no one to talk to except her. I decided that since we were going to be together nine days we better lay off the pranks. She didn't think so.
“She started the “war” between us on the first night. After I fell asleep she dragged my sleeping bag, with me in it, into a muddy spot. Muddy enough that there was no way I could get to land that wasn't muddy without making a mess of my clothes.
“I was so angry at her that I just had to get revenge. I had managed to slip a small worm into her Breakfast. (Breakfast was the only meal we were allowed to pack for all nine days.) You should have seen her face when she had realized that their was half a worm in her morning sandwich. (Which worse than seeing a whole worm in your sandwich.) She started spitting out so much a bystander could have mistaken it that she was throwing up because she had eaten a poisonous berry. I almost died from her over- exaggerated show. (She really could be big as an actor if she tried)
“The pranks started as soon as we started looking for lunch. I was walking behind her on a semi-worn path and she “accidentally” let a branch whip back at me jabbing at my stomach. I quickly got back at her by stepping on her heel and tripping her. (Fortunately my prank had double the effect, she was right in front of a very muddy spot.)
“The pranks continued for the next eight days. I couldn't believe some of the things we had pulled on each other, it had almost become a hobby of ours. The thing that annoyed me most about Karen was her annoying prank calls for help... Which leaves me in my current predicament.
“OK, now voice was getting louder... This area seemed to be where she would have played one of her usual prank help calls. (The usual place was by dense woods with running water and a decently steep cliff or waterfall) OK, I thought now that I've found the place, I've got to find her. I looked in the usual spots, by the edge of the waterfall (No), in the pool at the bottom of the waterfall (No), or at the top of the waterfall at the island (Yes). Wait a minute thought, she's hanging onto a rock really close to the edge. Oh my god, she's really was in trouble!!
“I had to go and find a log that'll float, (We hadn't bothered making a makeshift boat, as the instructors suggested) so I could get the the island near her. I started running. towards the woods were we found some larger logs near the creek. Finally, I got there. I had to pick out a log pretty fast, there that one, Its just large enough. OK, I've got to put some smaller sticks under it. I put three sticks under it and kept it rolling, but I still had to keep running to the front of the log to replace the stick that just rolled out.
“Swoosh, Splash, Hop, those were the sounds I made as I pushed the log into the water and got on top of it. I then quickly paddled to the island and saved her. She was so grateful she never played a prank on me again. In fact we became very good friends.”, the older lady said.
The kids that she was telling the story to had fallen asleep and like her friend Karen, she took care of them.
