Nicholas Barnard PHY117: Spectral Classification 2/20/02
In this lab we observed the spectra of several stars and identified their types by comparing with Owen Gingerich's Spectral Classification Laboratory exercise from a Sky and Telescope reprint. The main objective of this exercise was to observe and determine the star type comparing them to known patterns.
Nicholas Barnard PHY117: Crab Nebula Prequestions 2/20/02
1. The earth first saw the crab nebula supernova in 1054 C. E.
2. We see two lines for the 3727 angstrom oxygen line because once corresponds to the near part of the nebula which is moving towards us, and the other one corresponds to the far side of the nebula which is moving away from us.
