NCBarnard: hey
TimR502: yessir?
NCBarnard: tell me about Project Jerico
TimR502: ?
TimR502: Hmm...
TimR502: well, its a long story...
NCBarnard: give me the audio tape abridged version
TimR502: It is a program which brings arts
opportunity, in a supportive environment, to at-risk
youth and their families, to build self-esteem,
self-confidence, and awareness of individual arts
potentials.
NCBarnard: okay more logistics.. where do you find
kids?
NCBarnard: where do you find appropriate plays?
TimR502: We were partnered with local socail service
agencies to find participants. We hired professional
artists, and the kids wrote poetry, songs, and skits, as
well as learned dance, created artwork, etc... all under
the supervision of 2, 3, or 4 pro artists, professional
therapists, and my staff.
NCBarnard: hmm
NCBarnard: so how long would a standard session
take?
TimR502: 2 or 3 hours, at least 2 times a week,
generally for 8 to 12 week modules
NCBarnard: humm.. thats too long for our project...
TimR502: There are similar project s cropping up daily
all around the country. There is a forum for at-risk work
being held in Dayton in a few weeks...
NCBarnard: we have to do a social service project for
my COM141 class
NCBarnard: Dang I'm tired...
TimR502: me too... I gotta get to bed...
TimR502: and START getting to be by midnight
NCBarnard: still working on shit?
NCBarnard: so do you think Jerico works better when
kids create their own show?
TimR502: Absolutely
NCBarnard: they have more of an ownership stake in
it?
TimR502: yes... and more pride... it is documented and
researched...
NCBarnard: oooh quite cool... makes it easier on our
side I thinks.
NCBarnard: so do you think this is doable in 9 weeks,
from the beginning to end?
TimR502: I'd be happy to share some ideas. The
program I ran was one of the top three in the state.
TimR502: Yep... you could do some project in that
amount of time
NCBarnard: hmm... you see right now I'm picking.. at
that grey particulate matter
NCBarnard: Is this too direct?
NCBarnard: Please reimburse me for $70.00 for the
cost of rights paid to Samuel French from the Directing
Lab Fund. This amount is per the new 50% rights plan
that the Directing Lab board at a Fall 2001 meeting.
Attached you will find an invoice from Samuel French as
well as a image of a canceled check paid to Samuel
French.
I am a Directing Lab Board Member, so I believe that I
am qualified to request this reimbursement.
Thank you for your assistance.
TimR502: no... looks fine...
NCBarnard: k
