Nicholas Barnard PHL399: Last Man Walking 2/5/03

If by a random unexplainable event I was the last person on the earth, my first response likely would be to spend the first day searching for other people, as to find someone to discuss the matter with, and attempt to figure out exactly what happened.

After a day or two of this, I would likely make the assumption that I was the only person left within the Dayton, Ohio area (if I were unfortunate enough to be in Dayton when this event happened) and go about securing resources for a “long haul” I would find my way to the closet grocery store, and start ensuring that items that would last longer while frozen were moved into freezers. While its possible to make all of my food, it conceivable would be a significant amount of time until my attempts at growing plants and raising animals were fruitful, so securing resources would be my first step.

After doing this I would likely engage in behaviors that aren't acceptable when people are around, I would walk around naked, or very scantily clothed (assuming the weather allowed me to) and perhaps engage in random destruction for the fun of it. (Hey, the television channels only go for so long without people, and the video store well doesn't have movies of a high quality) So I would attempt new things, taking apart ATMs, exploring the employee areas of banks, looking through “important” people's offices and engaging in activities that I couldn't do while there were lots of people around.

Eventually, I would assume that this activity would become uninteresting, and I would gander that I would take to writing, reading, and watching videos (after I had found a good independent video store), as these are resources that are stored up already.

Beyond the first few years it is hard for me to predict what I would do, I'm sure though that I would seek variety to keep myself interested, and active.
