Technology is the most vital part of my life. I am a person that was brought up with computers, televisions, telephones, microwaves, and video recording technologies. I am accustomed to using these tools without a second thought to the progression of technology required to bring these items and services to me every day. Technologically I have been ahead of the curve; I programmed my computer at the age of seven, and have stayed abreast of new technologies before the major media even becomes aware of them.
I haven't fully considered the hurdles that must be faced socially by new technologies and how they change cultures. This is something that is truly interesting to me as a child of the computer revolution. I have been irreparably formed by these technologies. Although I have been formed by these technologies I have not fully realized how they affect me in a multitude of ways, and the experts have only begun to consider the effect of the computer revolution on my generation.
In considering the McCormick text, I am surprised that there is no discussion on more recent technologies such as the telephone, or automobile. Considering the societal repercussions of these two inventions it would be paramount to understanding the current state of our society today. While I do believe the current computerological revolution is important, it is almost too young to access the actual repercussions of it. The Galieo piece on the other hand serves to exemplify the stubbornness displayed to change. In general people are resistant to change. In addition it provides a historical example to consider without personal beliefs interfering in a factual analysis. By analyzing our opinions on a historical example we can better understand our opinions on modern issues.
