{"id":2521,"date":"2008-01-31T17:17:39","date_gmt":"2008-02-01T01:17:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.inmff.net\/peidm2\/2008\/01\/31\/leadership-is-fracking-hard\/"},"modified":"2008-01-31T17:17:39","modified_gmt":"2008-02-01T01:17:39","slug":"leadership-is-fracking-hard","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.inmff.net\/peidm\/2008\/01\/31\/leadership-is-fracking-hard\/","title":{"rendered":"Leadership is Fracking Hard"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Three weeks ago I watched <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hbo.com\/docs\/programs\/ghostsofabughraib\/index.html\">Ghosts of Abu Ghraib<\/a> yesterday at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.uuchurch.org\">UUC<\/a>.  <\/p>\n<p>After watching this film I am embarrassed to be an American.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>I desperately want to disown this, to say that this was <a href=\"\/peidm\/archives\/000052.html\">Not done in My Name<\/a>.  I am convinced that this is not the appropriate or correct position to take.  Doing this allows government to be divorced from its rightful owners, the people.  <\/p>\n<p>I clearly see this as a failure of leadership, the always ultimately starts at the top, or the bottom.  (The top of an organization is selected by the bottom of the organization.)<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>I was struck last night watching the the first episode of the second season of <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Battlestar_Galactica_(2004_TV_series)\">Battlestar Galactica<\/a> how easy it is to vilify a leader faced with a tough choice.  Thinking to Wil Wheaton&#8217;s assertion that the whole first season of Battlestar Galactica is about September 11th, this disturbs my beliefs on George W. Bush.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve considered the guy quite close to pure evil.  <\/p>\n<p>The problem with this is that I know that leadership is never that black and white.  It is just as wrong to say that a leader is completely right as it is to say that a leader is completely wrong.<\/p>\n<p>So I&#8217;m stuck needing to find redeeming qualities of George W. Bush.  I would put his best quality is commitment to his chosen action.<\/p>\n<p>Ultimately history will sort this one out, although I&#8217;m quite sure both hardcore Republicans and hardcore Democrats will both be wrong.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Three weeks ago I watched Ghosts of Abu Ghraib yesterday at UUC.
